Perspectives from Corporate America on personal productivity

I love to hear the insights of someone coming out of Corporate America and into a small business setting. I chuckle because it reminds me why I left that environment 15 years ago. It also helps to remind me why I love the constant whirl of a small business.

Matt Asay recently left Novell to work for a startup company. In his post at InfoWorld, he shares his personal thoughts on what both the company and the employee can do to be more productive. Here is the list of his points:

Employer Rule No. 1: Give employees ownership of real deliverables.
Employee Corollary No. 1: Insist on personal accountability.

Employer Rule No. 2: Less is more.
Employee Corollary No. 2: More is less.

Employer Rule No. 3: Every employee should be revenue-additive.
Employee Corollary No. 3: If you’re not making money for your employer, you’re a waste of money.

Yeah Matt! In a short period of time, you’ve hit the nail on the head about some critical issues.
